USVA Stat Rating System
Rating For Passing
The USVA-Style Volleyball Rating System
This 0–3 rating system is an excellent tool for tracking passing and setting performance during both practices and games. Maintaining a team passing average above 2.25 is a strong indicator of winning matches.
Passing Rating Scale (0 to 3)
The target area for all passes is between sections 6 and 7 (using a standard 9-section net breakdown from left to right) at a height of at least 8 feet.
3 Points (Perfect Pass): The ball hits the target perfectly. The setter does not have to take more than a step and a half to catch/set the ball, or the ball successfully goes through Sandy’s Ultimate Volleyball Passing and Setter Trainer.
The Theory: Gives the setter maximum options to set all hitters (Left, Middle, Right, or Back Row).
2 Points (Good Pass): The ball hits the target area and stays in front of the 10-foot line, but requires the setter to move more than a step and a half.
The Theory: The setter still has multiple options (Left or Right side).
1 Point (Poor Pass): The ball is passed to the target area but stays behind the 10-foot line.
The Theory: The setter is limited to only one viable option.
0 Points (Error): The pass goes out of bounds or results in an unplayable ball.
Setter Rating Scale (0 or 2)
A simple, binary reflection of a setter’s accuracy based on hitting their intended target.
2 Points: The set successfully goes through/hits the designated target.
0 Points: The set misses the designated target.
